Primient Celebrates 2022 Energy Star Certification at Two US Facilities

25 October 2022

Chicago, IL – (October 25, 2022) – Primient proudly celebrates 2022 Energy Star Certification for two of its US facilities (Lafayette, IN and Loudon, TN).

Primient’s Lafayette, IN and Loudon, TN plants also share the distinction of being the only facilities in the corn wet milling industry to currently hold the US Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) ENERGY STAR Certification with 8 and 6 years of consecutive awards respectively.

Certification reflects the Agency’s high standards and requires that strict energy performance levels are met.

“We’re incredibly proud to receive the ENERGY STAR certification year on year,” said Justin Plummer, Technical Manager, Primient. “Continued investment in our facilities, a future-focused sustainability strategy, and dedicated people who support each facility and project are keys to our ongoing success.”

“Improving the energy efficiency of our nation’s buildings is critical to protecting our environment,” said Cindy Jacobs, Chief of the ENERGY STAR Commercial & Industrial Branch. “From the boiler room to the board room, organizations are leading the way by making their operations more efficient and earning EPA’s ENERGY STAR certification.”

Both of Primient’s ENERGY STAR certified facilities have implemented Combined Heat and Power (CHP) systems, successfully transitioning from coal-fired boilers. In the last year alone, the Lafayette CHP project (commissioned 2021) reduced CO2e emissions by over 119,000 MT/yr. along with a 71% reduction in plant SO2 emissions. Since commissioning in 2016, the Loudon system has reduced the site’s CO2e emissions by over 40% along with over 70% reduction in site SO2 emissions.

These investments and their proven results are examples of the Company’s strategy towards aggressive carbon reduction goals in action.
